Going, going, not gone?

Brett Favre. We know him as the quarterback of the green bay Packers, we know him as the player with "boyish" personality, no matter the situation. We can now add to the list "backup". In what could be the worst move in Green Bay Packers GM Ted Thompson's career, (who brought Favre to Green Bay in 1992 via trade with the Falcons) Thompson has welcomed Favre back to Green Bay after Favre voiced his intentions to return to the NFL. But, with one condition. He would return to the team only as a backup. This, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a report after Packers' brass met with Favre and his agent Bus Cook via conference call.

For Favre, he's looking at maybe two or three years left, before he gets to be a nuissance for NFL GMs. Favre has been rumored to be interested in being a Carolina Panther next year. I don't see how this could work out. The Carolina Panthers already have a bounty of Qbs, (although none to the caliber of Favre) with Jake Delhomme, Matt Moore, David Carr, and of course, what Favre hopes to not end up as, Vinny Testaverde.

Another issue with the Panthers as his 2008 suitor is the Delhomme contract. Delhomme, the current projected starter for the Panthers has a deal large enough to raise contractual and salary cap issues, should the Panthers reach a deal with Favre. Favre has 39 million due his way over the final three years on his contract. Favre would likely have to renegotiate his salary and length on his contract with the team he goes to, either by trade or free agency should the Packers outright release him.

I really cant see much hope in the situation for either Favre or the Packers, because the PR will be terrible if Favre ends up in the NFC, or godforbid the NFC North.
